Founded in 2020, “avant en garde!” is a netlabel releasing passionate, homespun independent electronic music.

physicality in digital spaces

inspired by internet culture, pre-internet indie music scenes, and post-war avant garde art movements, avant en garde! attempts to bring the emotional impact of home recorded music through a digital lens.

the label does not aim to gather music of a certain kind of sound. rather, by placing emphasis on the every day and the imperfections that brings to a digital, often sanitized medium, it presents music and artwork that feels somewhere between offline and online spaces. examples of this can be found within the music by using field recordings, voice memos and limited recording set ups. as well as in its cover artworks, with every release featuring references to real world materials such as yarn, cardboard or photography, directly referencing real world spaces.

as the founder of the label, i take care of everything from communicating with artists, to finances, digital publishing, artwork and design accompanying each release.

timeline

initially founded as a way for me to release vera, etc. releases on digital platforms, avant en garde! has been growing over time, expanding its scope to other artists such as Jellica, business pastel & Cyanide Dansen, Dreeks and florelle.

in 2022 it released its first label centric project, a compilation called “palette”, showcasing 15 tracks from 15 artists in 15 different styles of music. all proceeds from this release are going towards LGBTQ+ related fundraisers. the compilation raised over $520 for The Transgender Education Network of Texas in its first 3 months, and continues to donate its proceeds to fundraisers held by trans individuals.
