In the summer of 2023 i was asked by Dreeks to work on the artwork for their album “Evidence We Existed In This Moment In Time”. Having worked previously with Dreeks on artwork for their Echo Gaia single, as well as having written a song together on Florelle’s Flying Colours, I knew we had chemistry and so I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of this project.

“Evidence We Existed In This Moment In Time” deals with themes of the passage of time and wanting to capture precious moments. I immediately felt a connection to the work as these are also very important themes in my personal work. The initial idea was centered around the concept of embracing an angel, holding on to dear loved ones and memories with the knowledge that things will fade over time. The album is intended as a time capsule, and i wished to explore that further by referencing the role that music boxes often play in keeping memories alive. The artwork centers around pair of dancers, one being an angel, cast in porcelain atop a music box. the music box itself is adorned with elements referencing time and space, with its top half being based off of the Eise Eisinga Planetarium, and its lower half representing various climates and moments in time. as a reference to Dreeks’ heritage, the piece works with a palette of white and ochre inspired by traditional cypriot architecture. Pink and blues finalise the palette, working to compliment with the primary subject, making sure the center of attention remains on the music box, despite the background being very lush.

The piece is made out of a combination of digital art on top of an acrylic painting. The surface used is a lilac piece of cardstock. Unfortunately, I did not manage to capture the creative process for the traditional painting portion of this work. The digital part however has been captured with a timelapse, which is available below.
